The first Public Forum on the future of the Gardiner Expressway East ) launched on June 13, 2013 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The Public Forum is one component of a comprehensive community and stakeholder consultation program for Gardiner Expressway & Lake Shore Boulevard Reconfiguration Environmental Assessment & Urban Design Study. The study is examining the feasibility, impacts and costs of four alternatives for the easternmost stretch of the elevated roadway, which include: removal, replacement, improvement, and maintaining the status quo.
The event was well attended with over 300 people participating. participants spanning a variety of ages and backgrounds discussed the four options currently being presented as solutions to the current Gardiner East Expressway.
During the meeting, Waterfront Toronto presented a number of design ideas for the Gardiner East that were developed by six internationally renowned engineering and design teams. The design ideas spanned the four alternatives being explored – Maintain, Improve, Replace, Remove. Participants were able to discuss these design ideas and share their thoughts with the project team.

The first round of consultations on the design ideas closed on June 28th however consultation – including more Public Forums – will continue through the next phases of the project.
