Working with the Township of Langley in British Columbia, Lura conducted a backyard composting Community-Based Social Marketing (CBSM) project to develop, deliver, and evaluate behavioural change strategies and pilot projects for an enhanced backyard composting program. The project achieved a 51% participation rate and diverted 31% of curbside garbage output, some of the highest numbers in North America.
Lura worked with the Burlington Public Library on their new Strategic Plan. Working alongside a staff Strategic Planning team, Lura facilitated a series of focus groups with stakeholders, allowing the library to gain insight into priorities and potential theme areas for the Strategic Plan. Lura designed and facilitated a Strategic Planning symposium with board members, senior management, and the staff Strategic Planning team to draft the new vision, mission, values and goals for the Strategic Plan.
Lura recently worked with the City of Hamilton to develop a Community Climate Action Plan (CCAP) aimed at helping the Hamilton community prepare for, and become more resilient to, the impacts of climate change. The CCAP addresses climate change from both an adaptation and mitigation perspective. Lura was retained by the City to lead the community climate change conversation with stakeholders, coordinate the collection of information, and write the final Action Plan.
In 2013, London residents and stakeholders participated in a year-long conversation, known as ReThink London, as part of the City’s Official Plan Review to set the goals and priorities that will guide the City's long-term development. Lura provided an integrated suite of face-to-face and online engagement tools and techniques to encourage participation in this important city building initiative. Well over 45,000 people participated in the development of the draft vision and goals for the City’s new Official Plan.
