The Parkway Project:
The Windsor-Essex Parkway (WEP) is part of a long-term transportation solution that will ensure the safe and efficient movement of people, goods and services through the Canada’s premier trade corridor – the Windsor-Detroit gateway. The WEP is a once-in-a-generation undertaking. It is unprecedented in its community enhancement features for any highway, anywhere in Ontario and will include: 1.8 km of tunnelled sections; extensive landscaping throughout the corridor; the use of proven techniques to reduce noise levels; and special measures to protect wildlife. Construction of the WEP is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2011.
The Position:
Lura Consulting is seeking a Senior Public Liaison Officer to join our Project Team for the Windsor Essex Parkway(WEP). Lura is an innovative, leading Canadian consulting firm specializing in public consultation and communications and collaborative, community-based planning. The Senior Public Liaison Officer role is a full-time, Windsor-based position for the first year of the WEP Project, with the possibility of renewal for up to three additional years.
We are seeking an individual with excellent oral and written communication skills and who has extensive experience interacting with community groups and members of the public. The Senior Public Liaison Officer will be based in the WEP Project Site Office in Windsor and will play a lead role in project communications and public consultation as the project moves into the construction stage. This position requires the ability to work independently, but within a team environment that includes senior consultants, construction managers and government officials.
Qualifications:
- Located in the Windsor-Essex area or willing to relocate
- Minimum 5 years experience in project-related communications, marketing and community relations, ideally relating to infrastructure projects
- Strong facilitation, public presentation and speaking skills
- Experience with issue management, crisis communications and issue documentation processes
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends to attend community meetings as required
- Reliable and responsible and a proven track record to work within challenging timelines
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work well with MS office (Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint)
- Driver’s license and access to vehicle
- Bilingual and completed media training preferred but not essential
Duties:
- Develop communication materials as necessary (use of plain language)
- Community relations: organize and facilitate public consultation meetings such as Public Information Open Houses, stakeholder, business and agency workshops and meetings
- Manage interaction with community members at the WEP Site Office, including through a dedicated toll-free telephone service, designated email address and website
- Prepare project reports as necessary and attend Project Team meetings
- Liaise and communicate effectively with Lura staff, construction managers and government officials
Compensation:
This full-time position includes salary, paid vacation and benefits. Salary commensurate with experience.
